C6th Curriculum Information

Most of our students study three A Level subjects or equivalent level 3 qualifications, although some students with very strong grades in their GCSE subjects may study four A Level courses if this is appropriate for them. Resit classes in English and Maths GCSE will be studied at the same time as other A Levels, for those students who do not achieve a level 4 at GCSE in either subject.

Our students also take part in a weekly Core and Personal Development PSHE programme in addition to Sixth Form assembly which covers a wide range of topics including socio-cultural, spiritual, values and morality topics. Students are able to complete the Extended Project and get involved in a wide range of sixth form extra-curricular activities.

Sixth Formers receive comprehensive careers/higher education advice/experience provided by a programme delivered by the Corsham6th Team as well as a host of external speakers/agencies.

Full detail of the curriculum we offer at Key Stage 5 (Sixth Form) is detailed in the Sixth Form prospectus.

Small Group Tuition Funding

The Department of Education announced funding to support students whose learning was disrupted as a result of the COVID pandemic. This 16-19 Tuition Fund is available to all 16 to 19 providers such as The Corsham6th and is ring-fenced for 16 to 19 small group tuition only.

The funding can be used to support small group tuition for 16 to 19 students in English, maths, and other courses where learning has been disrupted. The guidance indicates that the supported students must be on a 16 to 19 study programme and who have not achieved grade 5 or above in GCSE maths and/or English by age 16. All will be on a 16 to 19 study programme. The subjects covered in the tuition will not be limited to English and maths but will be identified according to need and existing programmes.

The Corsham6th commits to using the small group tuition funding that it has been given to mitigate against the impact of the pandemic on our study programme for students. Sessions will be limited to three to five students per group and will be above and beyond normal timetabled hours. Students will be prioritised for small group tuition based on the guidance released by the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA).

The full guidance can be accessed via:

https://www.gov.uk/guidance/16-to-19-funding-16-to-19-tuition-fund

Support sessions will be prioritised for those who have a grade 3 or below in GCSE Maths and/or English

Examples of some of the Tuition Support on offer will include:

  • Bespoke subject support/catch-up
  • GCSE exam re-sit preparation (pending results of November 2020 examinations)

Tuition Support offered will be based on an individual needs assessment, the identification of an individual starting point, clear learning goals, expectations and outcomes.

Our commitment

The Corsham6th is committed to ensuring the tuition fund is used in accordance with the Government’s guidance on the 16 to 19 tuition fund by:

  • producing this statement setting out how the fund will be used to support the most disadvantaged students
  • publishing this guidance on The Corsham School website
  • recording the use of the fund, including references to individual students who receive support, the needs of those students, the number of hours of tuition delivered and retain the evidence of the tuition provided
  • delivering the extra tuition and spend the allocated funds in the academic year 2020/21
  • notifying the Education Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) of any underspend from the Fund for it to be reclaimed
