Duke of Edinburgh
The Duke of Edinburgh's Award is a voluntary, non-competitive programme of activities for young people. It is a recognition of a young person’s successful journey of self-discovery and development, renowned by employers and universities alike for the qualities young people have who've achieved a DofE Award. Its balanced programme develops the whole person - mind, body and soul, in an environment of social interaction and teamwork.
We are very proud of the continued success of our students on the programme, and more information about their many achievements will appear on this page shortly. Our DofE programme is co-ordinated by Miss Emily Weston, an experienced outdoor instructor and PE Teacher, who can be contacted for more information by clicking here.
There are three progressive levels of DofE programmes which, when successfully completed, lead to a Bronze, Silver or Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award. The Corsham School offers students in years 9 – 13 a DofE programme at all three award levels:

World Challenge
Every year The Corsham School gives students the chance to take part in a World Challenge expedition. lasting between ten and thirty-two days. We visit various far flung corners of the globe, giving students the chance to immerse themselves in different cultures and learn about themselves in the vastly differing surroundings of South America, Africa and Asia. Previous World Challenge expeditions have seen our students visit the following countries:
- 2010 - Peru
- 2011 - Iceland
- 2012 - Bolivia
- 2013 - Morocco
- 2014 - Vietnam and Cambodia
- 2015 - Iceland
- 2016 - India
- 2017 - Iceland
- 2018 - Borneo and Malaysia
Iceland 2017
This year we were able to trek the whole Laugavegur trail (54km) because of fine weather and not an unusual downfall of 5ft of snow as in 2015. However, had we arrived one day earlier we would have been in a deluge of rain that would have meant moving further down the trail by vehicle. The weather is always unpredictable in the mountains but we have to be prepared for all eventualities.
We enjoyed a wonderful time at the Blue Lagoon on the first day on the way from the airport. This was a perfect way to relax after the flight. The very next day we were transported by minibus to Landmannalaugar but had to stop along the way at a supermarket to do all of our food shopping. We got to grips we camping and cooking for ourselves very quickly. On the high plateau over the first day and a half we crossed a lot of snow in misty conditions but the subsequent four days we had wonderful hot weather. We walked 12-15km on each day and the team showed fantastic fitness levels. The vies of waterfalls, glaciers, snow-capped peaks, multi-coloured mountains and huge river valleys were spectacular.
We finished our trek at Thorsmork where we were able to relax in the hotspring and view the famous Eyjafjallajökull volcano that grounded all planes in 2010 because of it’s huge eruption. The team were also able to go whale watching and actually got to see minke whales.
